Fell on my hike today…
I never fall. Not once in 2-3 hikes/weekend for the past 8ish years. Not sure if it’s the fact I have completely flat feet, fallen arches on both feet. Or if it was the 10ish years of competitive TKD training like 6hrs/day in the summer. Of course I’ve stumbled dozens of times, but always can easily correct before my brain even catches up to what I did. My body does it and the cognitive part of my brain is like “oh yea do that, good call” after it happens
My ritual is normally to start the day with a protein shake mixed with stuff like metamuscil and collagen peptides. But I was completely out. I fished around in my pantry for some old leftover and discovered a free sample of protein I had gotten
The problem was it was some sleepytime night version with a bunch of melatonin and other sedative supplement chemicals in there. But it was all I had and I figured I’ll have pre-workout in me, good luck making me feel tired
Was bombing up insisting on being the fastest up (pass everyone, no one passes or stays caught up), but I realized about 3/4 of the way up, “oh shit, this stuff is more powerful than I thought”
I felt drugged. Like drunk. Balance started to suffer, and a perfect storm happened of people coming down all in a row blocking any way to get by without having to stop. I went left to go around someone, then left again when I realized that way was blocked, and there was no where left to go but a cliff (this was a really steep part, like scrambling for most people steep)
I stumbled and realized I was falling towards like a 10ish feet cliff about 4 feet away. And the scary thing was my drugged brain didn’t care. It felt like a dream I was in, because this kinda stuff never happens. But I heard the people around me I was going around gasp in unison. And then I thought “oh shit, this is bad”…
So I went down kinda hard on knees and hands taking a bit of damage to stop myself pronto. Got a little scraped up but I stopped before the cliff
All I said to the people was “sorry I had nowhere to go”. But it wasn’t their fault. It was the protein 100%. Props to drugs on that one, you easily beat me, even with my drugs helping me
Still was fastest up even with having to repeatedly pause and wash blood off my leg
