Melee/healers/pure casters have different playstyles and it just keeps the game interesting sometimes.
Played a wizard on live and loved chucking sunstrikes at stuff tearing out big chunks of HP or just outright deleting anything under 46... But do that for years and it gets dull. Everybody has their boredom threshold though so more power to them if they like backstabbing stuff for years. Even chanter, a class with a ton of depth, gets boring when you smashed 2 mobs together for 48 levels and beyond.
But I think the biggest advantage of having a bunch of alts is a better understanding of class capabilities and how they mesh together. Makes it easier to see the potential/strategies when you're stuck with a subpar group composition.
