You can't force 99 million people to protect 1 person who through circumstances or choices made in life will die in less than 5 years anyway. Whether it's from covid or not just doesn't really matter in the grand scheme.

This is what drives me crazy about covid the most; everyone suddenly began acting like other contagious diseases that are also dangerous for immunocompromised people to catch don't exist, and covid is somehow magically different in a way that justifies completely upending society for as long as it takes to achieve some unspecified, vague, utopian goal.
Nobody talked about wearing masks to the grocery store before covid existed. Literally not a single person on earth. Even during particularly bad flu seasons, I literally never saw a single person wearing a mask at the grocery store. I had seen actual cancer patients clearly on active chemo not wearing masks at the grocery store, many times. Then covid came along and short circuited something in the rational part of people's brains, and for many it seems permanent.
