If there was better social stigmatization, like what occurs in Japan, rather than apologists making excuses for them, that might do something to reduce crime on a cultural level
I even saw a (cherry-picked I know) depressing as fuck video where someone is hauling stolen merchandise to their car, the store employees chase them to their car and start to grab them, multiple bystanders yell AT the employees “YOU CANT TOUCH HIM!” and then cheer as the criminal gets away

We are too soft and don't criminalize deceit (bearing false witness, idolatry) enough.
It should be much harder to be "free" and it it should be earned and much easier to lose that freedom and if you engage in anything malicious the hammer should be dropped. So lying, cheating, stealing, manipulation, evasion... and on the other side you gotta limit power so greed etc...
Tyranny is fine when it's just.
