Never had a global epidemic in the full modern era. The 194 flu was to early for the kind of real time data and information/misinformation possible in 2020. People don't add to their calculations that every State pushes disinfo best it can to its enemyies, and this was a good ripe event for just lots of stories. unprecedented.
It was a good stress test at best, but there are some upsides. China got drunk on the surveillance and control possibilities (so stereotypical centralized idiocy) and went way too far and really hobbled a few things.
We just mainly shook out the bugs, ID's some nuts, probably did the scenarios for next time to include the "hot spots" of disinfo to happen again.
