It might be all bro science stuff, but I personally every time I jog try to do agility footwork that my cousin showed me from his community college football drills
If a crazy bum is coming at you with a knife, chances are they are not that fast, nor are they agile. Most homeless people I talk to in my job have really fucked up feet from walking miles and miles in the same pair of unwashed dirty socks, or no socks at all. Many have sores on their feet, swollen feet, or worse
This means speed and agility are probably your best defense. A crazy man chasing you still has to pull you down, and if you are fast enough, or can juke well enough (think football) they will only get one attempt at a dive. If they miss, and you continue running, you will be safe and out of their range and they probably won’t catch back up again unless you get tired before them
Or, it could play out like this video, where the crazy homeless dude inevitably has something unexpected happen where he trips, goes down, potentially loses his weapon. You then have the option to “swarm” him, as they like to say in MMA. Which is basically just start raining kicks into his head and body, not allowing him to get up
Hopefully not a scenario anyone will need to face, especially those that don’t go poking the hornet’s nest like this reporter did
