Private security is a good idea and one we may see more and more of, but they are hamstrung by all the same issues cops can have when it comes to the use of lethal and less lethal force, without the bodycam tech and other support that police get

They probably are also a much juicer target for attorneys because of their lack of credentialed training and litigation-defense as cops would be, although this is just a guess

But there’s a difference between being prepared and seeing crime frequently or hearing about it. It would be whatever the difference in your psychology “being prepared” here versus in Haiti. The threats are still basically the same, it’s just the frequency that can make us really afraid
