We are most likely alone, and by the time the next alien race exists, humans will have been gone for millions if not billions of years
Also we are moving away from other galaxies fast enough and for long enough the distances involved preclude any meaningful chance at communication pre travel. Its a big gamble to set off and hope to find something.
The only answer is Origami Space Travel.

Also, disappointed no one picked up the Red Dwarf reference.
