The time to oppose spending was during the creation of the budget, not later on when you're just trying to make funds available for the money you already committed to spending. The only leverage Republicans have in this situation is the willingness to plunge the country into economic ruin, literally shamelessly gambling our country's prosperity on an act of vanity. Even the brinkmanship itself at this point is starting to cause economic problems, decline in the stock market, etc.

Future spending does not seem excluded from a deal, then? Should the monsters get another helicopter?

Republicans had no problem cutting taxes on the rich, crippling our government's revenue and ballooning the deficit. They had no problem spending billions upon billions on the military, both under Trump and Biden. But when it comes time to ante up the money they already spent, they're trying to drown the country. I hope Biden mints a $1 trillion coin. Bunch of fucking children.

Tax receipts are higher than ever. Revenue is up.
