It's not another Vietnam and it's not NATO's fault. NATO is larger now than it's ever been because of Putin invading and annexing parts of Ukraine. This time they didn't get away with it. Way to go Putin the world rallied against you.

There would be no peaceful settlement without giving Putin exactly what he wanted, and the world isn't willing to give him that anymore. It would also have set a terrible precedent for China-Taiwan relations if we told Putin "Yeah you can have parts of Ukraine just don't attack"
NATO shares a large chunk of the blame. This has been brewing for 20 years since Bush. Treaty after Treaty has been broken by NATO and they've pushed more and more into Russia's border and strategic interests
