no you are 100% correct, DoD spends like 1 trill a year on defense and pretty much all of that money goes into the US economy

not only the defense industry, but entire swaths of the US, whole towns and large parts of some cities all exist because of defense spending.

should give yourself more credit
Defense spending is discretionary and includes healthcare, education, and housing in addition to the, uh, shooty war bang bangs they do.

Mandatory spending is a behemoth in comparison.
