What happens if China builds a factory to compete with our factory and it has way lower material and labor costs?

Well all China is really doing is providing the cheap labor.
Any factory buildings/companies are usually American, owned by Americans.
So it's not China building better and cheaper. It's China allowing Americans to put their factories in China.
So anyone with power is connected to these rich American industrialists in China making bank. So nothing will get done.
We've never had a situation where a nation's entire manufacturing gets uprooted and transferred to another country, but it sure feels wrong.
I've got a protectionist streak to me and I'm not all about 100% turbo capitalism.
A country is an eco-system. We don't allow strange fish into our rivers without making sure the river is fine. We should treat our economy and industries the same.
At the very least, consider moving manufacturing to Mexico. They're closer and friendlier and better quality.
We put ourselves at risk in multiple ways with our current setup.
You can't just rip the entire soul out of the Rust Belt and just say "Adapt."
You usually find another job before you quit your current one.
