I go with the traditional definition: liberals are the people trying to change society to make it better ... but sometimes they make it worse in the process, because changing society for the better is difficult.
Conservatives ... as their name suggests, want to
conserve things as they are. They're the people trying to keep liberals from changing things, which sometimes means stopping them from making mistakes, but often instead means keeping society stuck with its problems.
