I am absolutely pro-enforcement of the original naming rules within the world of Norrath.

When I was Guide for EQ it was my everlasting joy to get tickets for names to review and get them nerfed when needed. There's no point in having naming rules if they aren't enforced. I've been in several MMOs, run multiple guilds, and those games that actually enforce their rules end up having better player bases overall. It sends a message to trolls, and the like, that they either need to play nice with others or find someplace else to play.

There's really no excuse for a name that violates the naming policy. The rules aren't that hard to follow. And yes, dumb names that have nothing to do with the genre, world, or lore do, in fact, break immersion for other players who have to look at that bad name or interact with that dumb character. It's passive-aggressive trolling to intentionally have a bad name just because one thinks it's 'cute' or funny.

It's not difficult to create a decent in-genre name. If one truly lacks the IQ or mental skillset to create a decent name, go find a fantasy name generator. There are dozen of those out there on the net.

(I'm new here and bound to make friends, or enemies, with this post! Of course, that's not my intention, but I know some people are just as passionate about a free-for-all naming policy as I am about nerfing every Ganddalf*, Jedimazter*, Toasterlover*, Lordoveru*, Crackpleasre*, etc there is.[You must be logged in to view images. *Any name referred to above was made up randomly as I wrote this and have no relationship to anyone in this game world. If someone is actually named one of those names, then it's purely coincidental... and shame on you! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
