Oryx is probably the best source for hard, neutral visual evidence of losses on both sides. While it doesn't document losses of life, it reveals staggering losses of equipment. Keep in mind that not every loss of equipment is visually documented, so true figures are likely quite a bit higher.

The scale of equipment losses naturally suggests brutal (by modern standards) casualty rates.

Western figures like Milley have estimated casualties in the six figures for Russia.

"In November, Milley put the number of dead and wounded Russian soldiers at 100,000, and that could fall on the low side. A Pentagon official said in early August Russian casualties numbered 70,000-80,000. That was more than three months ago, and those months have shown no kindness to the Russian army. Reports suggest that newly-mobilized and ill-trained Russian units have been decimated in combat."
