There have been several instances of monuments being damaged or destroyed by explosions, either intentionally or unintentionally. Some examples include:

The Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, which destroyed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building and resulted in the deaths of 168 people.
The explosion of the Space Shuttle Challenger in 1986, which occurred shortly after takeoff and resulted in the deaths of all seven crew members.
The destruction of the Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan by the Taliban in 2001, which involved the use of explosives to destroy two ancient statues carved into a cliff face.
The demolition of the former Kingdome in Seattle in 2000, which involved the use of explosives to bring down the dome-shaped stadium.
