So far, all missing attacks have only shown in text as strikes.
When slain by pain and suffering, it is identified to others in text only as "!".
When the attacks do connect they show as hits, bashes, and presumably kicks as well.
Approximately 20k hitpoints and hits for 137 max, as confirmed
here.

"Pain and suffering hits YOU for 137 points of damage". (It hit me less than 15 times total throughout the fight, 137 is the max.) The hitpoints of this mob are roughly 19,000. You get very little exp and there is NO loot. Also wanted to note that you dont need any buffs (although clarity would be nice) to kill this, it doesnt cast or run at sow speed.
