So, your best bet is to stick to a 4:3 resolution and windowed mode to start. If you already tried just deleting (or renaming) eqclient.ini and letting it generate a new one (assuming you haven't installed under program files) then start with something simple and work upwards from there. For example, on my 4k screen I play in a 1920x1440 window on half the screen, and I use the dgvoodoo2 dlls because they work better with my laptop if I unplug mid-game.
Note that if you go too high you may have difficulty reading some text in game (at least my aging eyes do) so that's where you'll want to fiddle with the dpi and scaling settings. There's another thread in these forums that covers that when (if) you get to that point.
