Driving a Ford F600 flatbed and some sort of old Peterbilt cured me of any desire to ever shift gears the old-fashioned way unless I have no choice. Hated every second of driving those heaps.

As for electrics, the attempts to gradually defacto mandate them is effectively an assult on rural America. They suck for long distances, and suck even worse in the cold. Performance cars are probably a good use for that type of technology, electric motor torque curves being what they are.
