I think having a default position is kind of obtuse. Sometimes saying "yes" in life leads to adventures. There's a whole spectrum in between being risk-averse and being a curmudgeon.
Then again, a conservative telling itself that its default answer to everything is "No" and then later telling us this is also a default position of the toddler, and that's why it's right, is pretty funny
