The first smallpox vaccine was a LIVE virus. Which meant it could infect others that didnt take the vaccine. Imagine the pure blood outrage if vaccines were similar to the original smallpox vaccine.
Cowpox was a similar virus. It was observed that milk maids would get pox on their hands. It would clear up but these same maids were able to care for those with smallpox but wouldnt get smallpox.
This immunity was introduced to a slave. The slaves owner and developer of the vaccine then purposely inject the smallpox virus into the slave.
