But I, as someone who knows nothing about physics, or space, or science have some pretty serious disagreements.

Why does gravety in your simulation not seem to affect apathos, until it gets to a suepr close point, at which it slingshots around the earth like a moon lander?

If the Earth's gravity will always pull on an object, no matter how distant and gravity is a force that obeys an 'inverse square law'. So, for example, put an object twice as far away and it will feel a quarter of the force. Put it four times further away and it will feel one-sixteenth the force.

Using this advanced research I have deduced that if a constant pull of the inverse square law the path of the astroid will look more like this!

It's like if you tried to shoot a rocket directly into the sun. it would require super+ enormous thrust.
