I saw this and it perfectly illustrates how I think people value not admitting their beliefs are wrong over having an actual informed said belief.

Its the same phenomenon you see when people formulate an opinion, and then try to find facts to support that opinion (which ultimately leads you to conspiracy theories when you cant find any "real" information to bolster said pre-existing opinion).
