The mental health system can’t prevent these kinds of things
There have been multiple mass shooters, including the one before this, that were detained temporarily in a psychiatric facility and questioned, then released
The ONLY shooters the mental health system can stop are ones too psychotic to understand the benefits of lying to professionals. So maybe someone like Jared Loughner could have been stopped if his university 51/50/Baker Act’d him. Or possibly the Aurora movie shooter could have been stopped that way, although he was functioning at a level where his brain could still comprehend the benefits of lying and do it convincingly
What have I said multiple times on these forums? For the mental health system to work, it requires the patient coming from a place of honesty. Honesty about what their thoughts are and what they have been doing. If someone lies, the entire system breaks down and cannot help them. And there is a lot of lying which makes the system seem impotent. Either lying to manipulate the system or lying to escape/avoid it
Someone with no criminal history with a low or higher IQ who is not psychotic and understands the benefits of lying cannot be prevented from doing something like a mass shooting
