ON P99:
Just yesterday, I saw Amelinda broadcast that the patch had introduced some issues with the boats, and to send her a tell requesting a TL if you were at a dock. I forgot this helpful information almost immediately, since I was (and planned to stay) in Kunark. (No, this isn't the really stupid part yet.) Later, Faydedar popped and as the big guilds were completely focused on Trakanon, my guild decided to move to TD and give it a shot. I dutifully sent Amelinda a tell, and got her afk message, which was something like "I'm afk making dinner now, so please petition if you need help with the boats!" We were 16 or 17 people at that time, and I will admit that it did briefly cross my mind that sending in all those petitions at once was probably overkill, but sending in one petition asking for a GM or guide to TL all of us together seemed kind of presumptuous, so I decided that it was probably best to each send in a petition when we reached the docks. (Yes, we're
getting to the truly stupid part now.) About 60 seconds later Uthgaard popped into our guildchat to let us know that WHOEVER HAD THE BRIGHT IDEA TO SPAM THE GUIDES WITH 20 PETITIONS ALL FOR THE SAME THING AT ONCE had better think twice before they repeated such a stupid stunt. The
truly idiotic part? At the time that he popped into our guild, I'm 99% sure that I had just set our MOTD to something like "LEZGO SQUISH FISH! Go to docks an' den send 'tition fer gets help cuz boats is BROKENDED!" I know that Uthgaard's temper is the stuff of legends, but you have to admit that he probably deserves a gold star for not suspending my account on the spot.
ON LIVE:
My first character was a wood elf. (For some reason I thought that Kelethin was cool, instead of seeing it for the maze/exercise in frustration/deathtrap that it was.) When I was level 3 or so, I was invited to my first group. The group leader very patiently explained where to find the button to push to join, and then how to speak in group, and a number of other things that I had never come across before, since EQ was the first online game I ever played. While giving me a tour of GFay, he picked up another true newbie who was just as clueless as I was. He asked us to follow him once again, but the other newbie didn't budge. He explained again how to follow him, and when the other player still didn't respond, my gratitude and admiration for our benevolent guide were crushed when he announced that "the guy is probably LD". I mean, just because he was having trouble figuring out how to move his character was no reason to say, right to his face no less, that the poor guy was probably learning disabled!!
