I wouldn't worry about the trolls. It sucks, but it seems all you can do is make your petition in the correct place, let it work its course, and hope it doesn't take too long. I don't know, maybe you'll even get a temporary xp boost for lost time, or some other perk for the mistake, assuming it was a mistake.
