This is how I see it, I worked minimum wage for retail when I was 18 years old making whatever it was back then, I think it was like $8/hour. It wasn’t enough to live independently on and those jobs were mostly worked by high school age young adults like me who were either living with their parents or moved out living with peers involving many people to a apartment or home splitting the rent to make it affordable. I’ve personally lived in both those situations

Now our culture has shifted to saying these zero-skill entry level jobs should be worked by adults of any age, not just young adults, and should always pay enough to live independently on. I’m sorry but if you are a middle-aged adult with the skillset of a teenager (aka none), you should have the lifestyle of a teenager, which is living with family or with a lot of your peers all sharing a dingy apartment splitting the rent. You shouldn’t live the life of an independent adult when you have the skillset of a child

But I am all for free college, free healthcare, free houses, if it can be done without money printer go brrr or over-taxing people or parties that are heavily taxed already
