While listening to a Phish song I walked across a frozen lake in deep snow. Traversed the shoreline and observed the subtle and rare signs of life in -10 F weather. The lake is a small, 30 acre lake, maximum depth of about 20 feet. It's dominated by aquatic plant life from late spring to late summer. Blue-algae is thick in the water or I would swim in it. It's a good lake to take the kids out in the canoes. Get them used to the canoe, comfortable on a boat.
As I've aged I'm finding I really enjoy solitude in nature. It might be my favorite place to be. Wild untouched nature, alone, this is my space of purity. There, I am all that I am.
