I’ve experienced all 3 systems in WoW raiding
I haaaaated random roll. For me it played out exactly like the nightmare it can be. I was a consistent raider at the time, we started with random roll. I saw like 3 different hunters that had never raided with us before join our guild and raid, win multiple pieces of gear, then for whatever reason (usually conflicts with their schedule) leave the guild or stop raiding never to be seen again. The problem is in WoW if you have ANY pugs in your 40 man classic raid, you absolutely have to do random roll or soft reserve (superior to random roll IMO) rules. If you have even 1 PuG, you cannot do DKP, because it is unfair to that pug, unless they agree to it ahead of time (raiding for no gear due to DKP). So even after we went to DKP, we still got stuck doing random rolls on the days when we couldn’t fill a raid and had to invite some pugs
And I haaaaated loot council. My first guild in classic WoW tried that. Caused SO much drama about officers on council just feeding all the loot to themselves. Ultimately it broke up the entire guild. And I’ve heard so many horror stories of corrupt loot councils, I’ll never trust another one
