I don't know that it has to be one or the other. I liked Air Warrior a lot better than I've ever liked Everquest, and the former game could easily be played in sub-hour sessions. It was a different kind of game, though. World simulator games like EQ tend to take time and its hard to get around that without damaging the fundamentals that make those types of games what they are in the first place. At most you can mitigate it with some pre-planning; you can do those hour sessions in EQ if you're camped out someplace uncontested and hence able to log in and out freely as desired.
