Like 99% of all information and modern political discourse is currently exchanged on these platforms, they are effectively a digital town square and I think they have to be treated as such (not moderated, except for blatantly illegal content or blatant spam).

I mean you can make the argument they need to be regulated simply based on election interference; they all acted swiftly to squash that hunter biden laptop scandal when it first dropped right before the election, and after the election many dems who were polled said they never heard of it, and would have seriously reconsidered voting for biden if they had known. I mean that's just blatantly influencing the vote tallies, in a direct way, by suppressing that story.

Russian interference is nothing compared to basically having a monopoly on driving the bus of public discourse.
