Comedy did go into the toilet but it was long before the wokeness.
Listen to Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, George Carlin. Cosby did observational humor decades before Seinfeld and that whole coterie, Pryor did slice of life better than anyone, and Carlin's philosophical takes can't be beat. What followed later was a bunch of stoners, look how stoned and stupid he is, that's funny, and shockers, oh wow pedophile jokes so shocking I should laugh to seem elite and progressive.
Yes there were some gems among the latecomers, but the vast majority were unfunny retreads. Just look what passes at comedy movies these days. Free Guy? Help I Shrunk My Friends?
