I read an article explaining why nostalgia is such an effective money making method for producers

It basically explained that even if the re-make is crap, it doesn’t matter, because due to nostalgia of the material enough people will consume the content to make it profitable, or to make the loss not as bad

For example, say you come up with an original idea for a movie. Your range of profits are from 0 (no one cares enough to check it out or hears about it) - maximum. But if you re-make something, your range of profits are like 20%-30% - maximum. Where the 20-30% profit are the people who check it out because of nostalgia for the subject material

This is why there’s so many shitty remakes. They can’t lose as badly as a new idea can lose, basically
