The interesting negative about religion (I’m not very religious but was raised Christian/Lutheran with regular church etc and still occasionally go to church with friends and family), is that when religions become orthodox/fundamentalist, basically the extreme practice version of these religions, they do start to become oppressive, and in very similar ways. One very common similarity is the patriarch seems to gain more and more power and importance, women tend to lose more rights, there often is more abuse especially of women and children. You hear about some of the same fucked up shit happening in Warren Jeffs fundamentalist FLDS compound as you’d hear about in places with sharia law
So religion when taken to an extreme can become very twisted and sinful as well in my opinion
