Imagine 65 years old women or someone around there, older, starting to show it, works a long time to set herself up properly, effeminates, perfume, makeup, clothes. You see her out and about, and you don't take the time to walk up and shout at her for being old and presuming she is anything but a hag now.
Misgendering is as close to assault as you can get without grabbing someone. It immediately opens them up to harm, both from others and personal psychic torment that happens from attacks on ego.
