October 2001 included a patch that revamps 2-handed weapon damage and also upgraded 2 handed weapons game wide, many to dmg/delay ratios greater than 1.0. This patch also introduced new rogue piercers and monk weapons (Fist of Lightning, Wurmscale Fistwraps, etc.).

Where does it say the Oct2001 patch introduced these as weapons? Maybe I missed it.

I don't think these should drop prior to October, 2001. I cannot find any mention of these prior to October 10th on Allakhazam, legacy of steel, and Usenet among a couple others. The stats also are in line with what you would expect from those pre-luclin weapons that were released around the time of the melee changes.
