He phrased it in such a way that sounded pretty racist, but I think a charitable interpretation of what he was saying is "why is violent crime over represented in black communities, even when controlling for economic status?".
I think there is far too much violent crime in poor black communities. I want black kids to grow up prosperous and have a good future and thrive. The cultural elements that actively discourage academic achievement (it's called "acting white") are a huge problem. Many current black academics and commentators agree with this. If this makes me a racist, then all I can say is no it doesn't. Wanting black kids to do well is kind of the opposite of racist. Lefties need to grapple with this issue and address it honestly, instead of yelling and screaming racism when it's completely inapplicable.
Far left media like msnbc constantly hammering home the point that young black men are screwed and everything is stacked against them and they will never achieve anything because of how terrible and racist our society is sure doesn't help, especially when it's not true. We currently live in the least racist society and least racist time in all of human history, and disputing that betrays a massive ignorance of history and the rest of the world.
