Sadly, the ideology of the citizen-farmer-soldier is usually predicated on militarism, which leads to victims, slaves, etc. the native Americans and Gauls were already doing the same thing to one another, of course, but the idea of permanent conquest, and especially genocide, is obviously uncomfortable because it’s definitely fucked up.
