You destroy their launch capability so as to limit their ability to launch a second (or third+) strike. This is also why silos are clumped somewhat close-ish together (but not too close). It gives them some measure of protection. You have to groundburst to reliably destroy a silo, and doing that throws up such a huge amount of material that additional warheads coming in at re-entry speed might not survive running into the debris field. I don't understand why that map ignores so many major installations like those in North Dakota. Upon doing a quick web-search it appears it's for some kind of book, so it's just fantasy with the targets selected presumably according to the needs of the narrative.

With respect to the thread title, Ohio might be considered a "red" or "blue" state, being something of a swing state, but in either case I'm not inclined to move elsewhere at present, unexpected contingencies notwithstanding.
