Don't care what cops want to be, they don't get to write their job descriptions, if they don't like it they can work a security job at the warehouse or the nightclub. I don't blame cops for shooting crazy people, I blame management. Management teaches cops if they see someone muttering obscenities and kinda falling down on the road to engage them like it's a law enforcement matter.
The solution to cops shooting mentally ill people is not to send a mental health person alongside or instead of so the badly trained aggressive police don't get out of hand. The solution is to retrain the police.
