Well, in my fundamentals of nursing class, we were instructed to explain medical information at a 5th grade level.
This says most adults read at an 8th grade level, with 20% of the population reading at 5th grade level. I have no idea how to explain how cells work to a child, much less viruses and immunology (although I tried with my earlier reply,) so you make a valid point.
