For everyday transactions, the effect of charisma with an indifferent merchant is too small to care about for me. Eg with a halfling with 50 cha I sell peridots for 9.3pp instead of the max of 9.524pp.

max sale price of peridot (vendor faction indiff or better, cha 104 or better) is 9.880, not 9.524. For your example that's a loss of ~ 60p per 1000pp of stuff you sell. Not huge, but not irrelevant either.
