Humans need hierarchy and most permission. And males particularly struggle with freedom and power. There is an in born need for the male homosapien to loudly proclaim their dominance and authority. In the modern age It's been stripped from the Arena and transplanted to the forum or the commentary at the bottom of opinion pieces.

I'm not so convinced male dominance is the natural order of things. Our closest ancestors are chimpanzees (patriarchal) and bonobos (matriarchal). On a wider scale most social animal species tend to be matriarchal (ants, birds, whales, most mammals).
Although one can't ignore there are more males amongst the elite. Owing to more variance (both good and bad) due to one of each sex chromosome. In a globalized society men will filter to the top more as a result, no matter what societal progress we make.
The fallout from this is the men on the low side of variance are deemed unworthy by females that tend to congregate towards the middle. In the past, men and women were matched up more through religion, arranged marriage, etc. So I think the 'unmatched' demographic is the source for much of the unrest.
Combine this with sex-selection which only exaberates what we're seeing.
