At 50 the Wizard is nuking literally almost twice as hard as the Druid, with Ice Comet vs. Starfire. The major advantage the Druid has is that he can heal and drop some DoTs, but neither of these are very useful against a class that can hit you as hard and fast as a Wizard can.

At 60 the nuke gap has narrowed a bit, with the Wizard's Sunstrike being only about 60% more damage than the Druid Wildfire (1600 vs. 1000). But now the Wizard also has the option of using the unresistable Lure of Ice for 825 damage, which may be the better option in many cases.

Another factor is that the Wizard has self-runes with the Manaskin line. These are superior to heals in a nuker vs. nuker battle like Wiz vs. Druid because you can precast them and don't lose DPS by stopping to heal in the middle of the fight. An Epic Wizard will have his 800 hp rune and can also stack another 250 hp of spell-only rune with the Manasink spell.

Finally, the Wizard's Staff of Temperate Flux also allows him a much more accurate gauge of his spell range than any other class, including the Druid. This comes in very handy in nuker vs. nuker fights.

At 60 with both classes geared out and buffed, the Wizard enjoys a strong advantage. He's starting the fight with a 1050 hp rune and can nuke the Druid for unresistable damage, while the Druid is forced to contend with the Wizard's fire resistance to land his best damage. It's a difficult fight for the Druid to win, unless he catches the Wizard completely unprepared. At 50, the Wizard basically just has to land two casts of Ice Comet and the fight is over, and he will still have a 400 hp rune for the Druid to chew through in the meanwhile. This obviously heavily favors the Wizard as well.

Druids can kill Wizards (mostly if the Wizard is caught with his pants down and/or just sucks compared to the Druid), but it's not their strong suit. They are much better at killing melees by kiting them down with DoTs, nukes and SoW and healing any damage they take while their DoTs tick down. Obviously this tactic doesn't work on a Wizard, who can just sit there and drop massive burst damage from range that the Druid can't out-heal.
you dont use ice comet in a 1 on 1 unless your target is doing something else, and you open with it
