I think its in the video somewhere... the interviewee states that people are unable to come to sensible conclusions anymore, despite a wealth of facts or evidence that's put before them. That's where the media can come in and clear up any grey areas... depending which brand of news you want to hear you can put yourself in one camp or the other - divisions form where there was once relative peace and each side bounces off each other until there's an explosion.

Progress to some is like regression to others, again... tune in to find out what your news brand is saying on that.

Personally I've seen the BBC (very left) manipulate pictures of riots in London to cut out the part of a photo where a protestor has a machete raised in the air against the police, and I've seen some fairly bad misinformation going around Facebook and other news sources from both sides. Where once there was trust in the media, everyone is now either forced to filter through the bullshit in hopes of landing at the truth... or they give up the quest and watch Netflix/Twitch/etc.
Think about this: That link is a video of a russian, convincing Americans that Russians are so clever they have people in colleges to brainwash the students...

..For generations this little peace of anti intellectual propaganda, that the educated "are the bad guys", is still being passed around by anti-communists to avoid listening to their most educated countrymen lol
