That's the nature of this plane.
Thought makes real, as we were made in the image of God, who, through Logos, thought this plane into existence.
Therefore, if one thinks/believes there is no God, and subsequently no afterlife... That thought becomes real, and in cutting yourself off from the source of all life and consciousness, when you die, your thread in the tapestry of life burns up like chaff into nothingness.
You literally manifest your own un-being.
