Except your candidate's CDC is putting out data that shows masks are effective in reducing viral load and therefore effective at reducing transmission. So your description is incorrect.

It's more one side is saying "hey we should do this because the data is showing that it's quite possible that it helps...and oh by the way wearing a mask isn't really an inconvenience at all so let's err on the side of caution."

And the other group is going "no! We don't want to! And we'll just pretend that what the CDC's data shows isn't real!"

Just wear a mask for a couple more months until we can get the vaccine out to most people. It's really not a big deal.
