In 2020, 2021 and 2022 at the very least, the debate will continue to rage. At this early stage, nothing can be proved, and if you cannot prove it, You are Debating Philosophy, not hard science.

Supermarkets are the primary vector of transmission location-wise, I have seen studied. I think it's pretty disingenuous to just throw out two very obvious means to mitigating transmission in those places and call it feel-good and pretend there is no way of knowing or testing until later. Contaminated food sitting open in the air in every supermarket store is an extremely obvious vector of transmission. Covering that produce is a very low-cost means to potentially saving many lives. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with attempting a number of means of mitigating the spread of the virus and later discovering that some were less effective than others. What you advocate instead is to do nothing, which is the only thing "hard science" can prove definitively unhelpful. If we had gone out on a limb and actually
done some things, we might have better options than sitting at home in lockdown doing nada.
I do actually have a better idea of what I am doing than some. For example, I knew that Fauci's early comments on masks doing nothing were falacious because I understood that viral particles tend to travel in water droplets which are much larger than a single viral particle. I understood this intuitively, without needing the data which later proved Fauci wrong. There are people who are better intuitive thinkers than others, and science is not merely trial and error but also educated guess.
