Not sure on pet damage but I'd try once to be sure. At a guess it's part of your damage same as the dots so it should be fine.
I'd recommend definitely old world. CT has healer mobs in the area you probably want to be so I'd avoid there.
Mistmoore is less camped these days so maybe castle entrance/courtyard there if not Splitpaw.
If he needs gear you could do worse than trying to farm a
Hooded Black Cloak while you're in MM (2.5 WT though) or a FBSS in Lower Guk - try and get the best of both
