Define improper response, or proper response. "Do everything correctly" isn't an argument. Based on what we have learned, covid is still highly non-fatal. a 95% survival rate for the most vulnerable group (the elderly) does not warrant the response that has been deployed, and especially not the consequences of the measures that have been enacted. Nobody has been able to explain, still, why we shouldn't just socially distance and wear masks at all times, for everything, based on this logic. Listen to epidemiologists and other infectious disease specialists.
They don't recommend wearing masks for the cold or influenza (most). Just because they haven't been able to explain it to your liking doesn't mean it hasn't been explained. It's a combination of mortality, R0, and other factors. If we didn't have vaccines that were at least partially effective for some flus, we might be asked to wear masks more.
This trend in our society to give credence to our layman's logic and information we read on facebook over that of the experts is an alarming trend that is, almost, uniquely American in origin.
